Low Sugar Challenge: Melissa’s Week 3

It has been a week.

A week full of ups and downs, but sugar consumption has remained steady. It is still a bit of a challenge, and I still dream of sweet things, but I’m gravitating more toward fruits as dessert and it is getting easier. It’s just … not easy. Yet.

Control the Craving

My latest stick-to-this-lifestyle-come-hell-or-high-water plan was to incorporate foods thought to help control blood glucose levels. Among them are onion, aloe, and the heavenly pomegranate –Not the sugary, no-fiber pom juice, but the actual pomegranate. All in an effort to steady blood sugar levels to reduce cravings, and I think it’s working. I’ve had zero desire to add sugar to my coffee or tea, and I’ve felt much less angst about abstaining from the sweeter things.

For my Next Trick…

Before the Industrial Revolution, our sugar consumption looked much different than it does today. I don’t need it even though I may want it, and I’m willing to be my own guinea pig. So, for my fourth week of low sugar, I will up the ante and cut my added sugar consumption in half, reducing it to 12 grams. Wish me luck!

And hey guys! I made it past Week 3! It can be done.
